What Réunion’s press and television said about the simulator,
and of the virtual reality
experience that followed it.
LINFO.RE television news — 16 August 2015
Virtual reality appears as a birthday gift for the « Cité du Volcan » museum — thanks to it the public can live an eruption as if standing in front of the volcano.
Le Journal de l’Île — 13 August 2015
The effect is stunning. Immersion is total.
Above me, a beautiful starry sky, and all around, fragments of lava perilously close. Suddenly, explosions from the erupting cone eject blocks that are thrown into the air. I try to protect myself with my arm from the impacts and ricochets.
Now the lava is in front of me, a few metres away, and I feel able to touch it with the tip of my foot, with my hand — which is what I try to do. At this distance I can make out the different details of these flows. It is wonderful.
Le Quotidien de la Réunion — 16 November 2014
…three children, ecstatic in front of the lava flow they have just created. With their fingertips they chose the eruption site themselves, on the south flank of the volcano.
Lava flows are particularly realistic, and the night view is spectacular.
Le Journal de l’Île — 15 November 2014
You can divert the lava flow, warm it or cool it, watch the scene by day or by night… The flow follows the profile of the Piton de la Fournaise with extreme precision, and each new creation can live for several hours.
…you will be surprised by the level of realism. An eruptive crack ending, for example, by focusing the eruption on a single point to create a volcanic cone. You can also watch rocks being carried away by a lava flow.
